Tiny Humans are Great!

I love, love, love 1st Grade! The Tiny Humans never stop moving and need a lot of guidance and love, but it's worth it when they give you that big smile and hug at the end of the day like you're their hero. Seeing the light bulb come on is a reward in itself. The best thing of all, no nasty parents to deal with yet. They all seem to love me too. I get thanks everyday from parents for teaching and loving their children.

My team is awesome, and we really seem to gel with each other.  We bounce ideas off each other, and really talk about what is working and what isn't working.  We laugh a lot at the things we go through each day.

Of course with those big hugs,  I also get their big germs.  So here I sit on a three day weekend with a horrible head and chest cold complete with scratchy throat and severe congestion.  At least I can rest.  Gotta love those Tiny Humans!

I Made Something!

I am not a creative person.  I look at Pinterest and wonder why things I try to make never look the same way.  They make it look so easy!  I decided I was going to try again because I really wanted to make this attendance board.  I ordered everything I needed (Amazon Prime is my friend), started with the borders and used different colors of the jungle themed washi tape, added chalkboard tape for my titles, and numbered my magnets.  I'm going for a chalkboard safari theme this year.

I've been in the upper grades for so long (17 years teaching 3rd, 4th, or 5th), and never used any cutesy themes.  I decided it's time to try and be creative, and if I can't, I always have my mother who is ultra-creative.

Hello my name is Bonnie and I...

have a serious addiction to Pinterest, TPT, and Amazon Prime.  I have gone crazy with online shopping.   Going from 5th to 1st is expensive.  It's like I'm starting over again, and have nothing for my new class.   Everything I used in 5th will not work with my 1st grade class.  I didn't do cutesy with my 5th graders.  I'm not the creative type, I don't do cutesy.

Now I'm becoming creative and cutesy, and the crazy thing is:  I LIKE IT!  I'm looking forward to setting up my classroom.  I have surfed the internet teacher sites and have found so many things I want to try for my Tiny Humans.  I'm looking forward to meeting them.  I want to teach the Tiny Humans!  I'm still a little scared of them though! :-)

P.S. My tattoo is all healed up and looks awesome.

Bring it on my Tiny Humans!

Tattoo Time

My latest tattoo!

I have several tattoos, and everyone of them has some kind of meaning.  I never get a tattoo unless it has a story behind it.  I have a favorite artist who I can tell what I'm thinking about, and together we come up with something special.

If you have been reading my blog, you know that I was dropped down from 5th grade to 1st grade.  It hit me kind of hard at first, but after going through all the stages of grief (great blog about this from Teaching in Progress of changing grade levels), I came to acceptance.  I realized that this is going to be a good move for me.  I have already started buying things for the Tiny Humans, and have many ideas I want to try.  Can you say Pinterest?

Anyway, back to my tattoo.  I have wanted a compass for a while, but I couldn't quite figure out what I wanted to go with it.  The compass is to remind me to never lose my way, and the quote pretty much explains itself "Run the road God called you to travel."  I'm going to run that road, and no one better get in my way.

Bring it Tiny Humans!
